Watch a rare toe to thumb transplant.  What do you think the future of transplants will be?

  1. I think this video is really amazing because it’s crazy that you can take one part of the body and use it for a completely different purpose. The fact that a toe can function as a thumb is astonishing. I never realized how important our thumbs are, so it is cool that this transplant works and can give people back that much needed appendage. From watching this video, I think the future of transplants will be finding less important parts on our own body that can serve in place of another body part. This way, instead of going without important body parts, we can simply take our own less useful ones and use them as a replacement.

  2. I thought that this video was really interesting. I had no idea that you could take different parts of your body, and with the right supplies you can make them as other functional body parts. In this video I learned how far science has come, with being able to do this successful. This can lead to more simpler surgeries with other body parts like with the toe and thumb.

  3. It was shocking to find out that with science these days we can use one part of the human body to function as a totally different part! With this option the possibilities are endless. I believe that the future will have the possibility of using other people's body parts (organ donors), and create working limbs that aren't internal. If this could be done with a good success rate and good results from the patient it would change the whole world of prosthesis and such. I think they will also find other swaps they can use within the human body.

I thought that this video was interesting. It is exciting to realize how far science has come, especially as far as transplants go. I think that if we have the ability to use one part of the body for a different function (toe as a thumb), then there are many other things we can do with transplants. I also believe the world of transplants is changing for people who need internal organ transplants. There are many people who are sick or dying and are waiting for an organ donor so that they can get a transplant. If we could grow organs or use one organ for another purpose then less people would die because they couldn't get the organ they needed in time. This video just goes to show how far we've come and how far we will go in the world of science and medicine.
